The Obama Administration’s HHS Mandate will begin to be enforced in all nonprofit religious schools, charities and health care providers on January 1, 2014. Congress must decide whether or not to address this important problem before that deadline.
The August recess is a good time to contact your representative and urge them to co-sponsor the Health Care Conscience Rights Act (H.R. 940, S. 1204). Here are some recommended actions to take:
- Meet with members of Congress during the summer recess at their local office or at public events asking them to support conscience rights protection.
- Send an e-mail to your Representative through the USCCB’s Action Center.
- Call your Representative and Senators. Contact the U.S. Capitol switchboard at 202-224-3121, or call your Representative’s and Senators’ local offices. Full contact and schedule information can be found on Members’ web sites at: www.house.gov and at www.senate.gov.
Suggested Message: “Please co-sponsor the Health Care Conscience Rights Act (H.R. 940, S. 1204), and work for its approval in upcoming ‘must-pass’ legislation. Government must not force Americans to violate their religious and moral beliefs on respect for life when they provide health care or purchase health coverage.”
