Interpreting Hobby Lobby

There is a great deal of information on the internet to attempt to provide some understanding of the Supreme Court’s decision in the Hobby Lobby case. There is also a great deal of misinformation and emotional accusations against Christians, the Supreme Court and anybody who stands for even a modicum of rights of those who want to exercise their conscience. The decision was very specific.

It was not a Freedom of Religion show down. It does not apply to all kinds of conscience exceptions. It did not even consider whether or not abortion and contraception were, in fact, health care. Lastly, the decision does not address the worthiness of the Obama Administration’s “exception” for religious organizations which still forces them to provide objectionable services, although not pay for them directly. These are battles yet to come. Here is a good analysis of where we are and where we might go in the near future: http://www.religionnews.com/2014/07/01/analysis-hobby-lobby-beat-contraception-mandate-heres-nuns-may/
